    Mike Walther founded Oak Wealth Advisors LLC in 2008.  Mike’s passion for helping people led him to open the firm so that families seeking experienced and objective financial advice could access the same quality of service that has traditionally been available only to the very wealthy.  Mike’s mission is to assist individuals and families in achieving financial security and enjoying their lives to the fullest extent possible.  

    Prior to opening Oak Wealth Advisors, Mike held leadership positions with three of the most respected independent financial advisory firms in Chicago.  At these firms, in addition to serving clients, he served on the investment committees, shaped the strategic planning, and developed a strong network of professionals with whom he continues to work.  

    His expertise has been sought by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute, the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors and the Garrett Planning Network.  

    He has also written financial planning articles for the Chicago Sun-Times, and has been featured or quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, The New York Times, and numerous other national publications.  

    Mike’s long history of not-for-profit board service includes serving as either the President or Treasurer of the National Association for Down Syndrome, Life’s Plan Inc., and the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Foundation.  He has also co-chaired the financial management committee of the Winnetka Congregational Church and the Church’s planned giving committee.  

    In 2008, Mike was recognized by Institutional Investor News as one of the 20 Rising Stars of Wealth Management.  The national recognition continued in 2011, 2012, and 2014 with feature stories about Mike and Oak Wealth Advisors in some of the financial services industry’s most respected publications.  

    Over the last several years, Mike has guest-lectured and taught special needs financial planning classes at three Big 10 universities and Texas Tech University. 

    He received his BS degree in Economics and MBA with a concentration in Accounting from Vanderbilt University.  He received his CPA certification from the University of Illinois Board of Trustees, Personal Financial Specialist designation from the AICPA, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification from the CFP® Board, and CFA® designation from the AIMR Board of Governors.  Mike is a member of the AICPA, the Financial Planning Association, and the CFA Institute.

  • Jan Gargula Director Office Operations

    Jan Gargula, Director Office Operations

    Jan enhances our service to our clients. She interacts with clients and our other trusted relationships on a regular basis. She ensures prompt responses to client inquiries and simplified paperwork related to their investment management.

    Jan’s career includes numerous roles assisting families and giving back to the community. Prior to joining Oak Wealth Advisors, Jan worked for ten years with the Wilmette Public School District coordinating and developing their Summer Enrichment Program. As an active community volunteer, Jan has applied her leadership talents to a variety of organizations. She has presided over multiple parent organizations, most recently as the National Co-Chair of the Marquette University Parents Association and as Co-Chair of Roger Williams University Parent Council. Jan also served as Chief Financial Officer of a North Shore nonprofit.

    Elected to a four-year term as New Trier Township Trustee in 2013, Jan served as trustee liaison to the Township’s Advisory Committee on Mental Health as well as the trustee liaison to the Committee on Disabilities. In 2015 she was acknowledged as an Outstanding Woman Elected Official for distinguished leadership by the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County. Jan was also awarded the Township Excellence Award in 2017 by the New Trier Township.

    She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Marquette University. Jan and her husband have two sons and live in Wilmette.

  • Randi Gillespie

    Randi Gillespie, Director Special Needs Services


    At Oak Wealth Advisors, Randi counsels families with special needs members and develops the materials that are used to assist them in maximizing their opportunities. Her passion, training, and experience provide her with a unique set of skills for connecting with our clients and delivering strategies.

    In April of 2014, the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association honored Randi and her family as their 2014 Family of the Year. That same month, Parents.com sought out Randi’s expertise for their article on babies born with special needs. Later in 2014, Randi penned an op-ed that was published in the Chicago Tribune titled, “A boy, his sister and Down syndrome.” Randi and her family continue to be featured in the Northbrook papers as community leaders and advocates for those within the disability community.

    Randi’s background includes a variety of roles supporting and leading organizations that serve disadvantaged members of the community. Among her accomplishments is her rapid rise to the role of Executive Director of Alliance Human Services which provides services to at-risk youth in the foster care system. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the National Association for Down Syndrome (NADS) and was a founding member of GIGI’s Chicago Board of Directors. As the mother of three children, including a daughter with Down syndrome, Randi has first-hand experience raising a special needs child and navigating the support network.

    She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology and communications from Bradley University and her Master’s degree in counseling services from Rider University. Randi, her husband, and their three children live in Northbrook.
